Lots of Updates - Parks, Rides and Site!
6th April 2010 by: Joel
Howdy folks,

It's been a while yet again since I've spent any time on poor old ridecount. In fact, I became a little suspicious earlier when it felt like I'd hadn't heard anything from the automated emailer scripts alerting me to a new park someones added, or a missed ride here and there.

So after digging around a little, I discovered that in fact the reason it's been so quiet was because the mailer queue on ridecount.com had become jammed and had stopped delivering emails for over a month. Turns out there were lots of emails for updates, news parks and missing rides! Eeek!

The good news is, I've sat and processed them all now, so we're up to date once again. Yay!

New Parks
A fair few (around 10, actually) new parks have been added to the database, so thanks once again for your additions submitted. We'll make sure we try and stay on top of these submissions, particulary as we've made some changes to the tool on the admin side of things

Site Changes #1 - Discontinued Rides
You'll now find that removed, rethemed, rehomed, dismantled, exploded, SBNO...etc rides, or as we simply call them, 'discontinued' rides, are actually available to track at the bottom of the ridecount trip logger. This is because sometimes we do actually get new members who want to track and log previous trips from years gone by, and previously these discontinued rides were just removed from the page. Good news, you can now log them again - and they even have their little discontinuation reason on display too...

Site Changes #2 - Missing Ride Reporter
It's mighty difficult to keep track of every change to every ride in every park out there, and that's why we rely on you guys to keep us informed too. The 'missing ride' reporting tool has ben greatly improved - previously it just used to email us with your comments, but now it actually adds the data into the database itself, and awaits approval from the ridecount team, making it much easier to deal with, and much quicker too!

You now need to complete the proper ride name, its type, its current status (as you can also suggest rides that have been removed so you can log past trips!) and also a little comment to explain about the ride further should you need it. There are only 5 boxes for missing rides, however you can submit those first 5, then click again to add another 5 (forbid there actually being that many rides missing of course!), and so on until all of them are reported to us.

You'll also now see these rides awaiting approval at the bottom of the logging page for a park - right underneath the discontinued rides. This is to help prevent people reporting rides twice, three or even four times, as so frequently happens now. If you see the ride thats missing in that list - hold off reporting it, and we'll add it very shortly.

So thats about it for today - hopefully you'll find these new changes a little more helpful and we'll certainly find them a help to keep things up to date for you guys quicker.

That's all for now!

Park & Ride Updates
29th July 2009 by: Joel
Hello!

You might think sometimes that we've abandoned ridecount and left it to rot away in the great internet graveyard.

But you'd be wrong. We still receive many new parks to add to the database, and also many ride updates, all from our very kind and supportive users like yourselves.

And we regulary run through all of these submissions and update the site where we can.

Things have been quiet on the new features front because, well, honestly real life stepped in and new things came along. But we still have great plans for ridecount, and we hope that they'll get underway once again soon.

But for now, keep up the amazingly helpful work of adding new parks and keeping us up to date with missing/new rides on the database - we really appreciate it, and so does everyone else!
